About Bournemouth ...
Bournemouth as a town did not exist until the 19th century, prior to the one of an enclosure act in 1802 it was common land. A large quantity of land was owned by a chap called Tapps-Gervis who built a pub there - great start for a town - and who later sold some of his land to a bloke called Tregonwell who built a house for himself and his wife (who was the one who persuaded him in the first place) load of houses with the intention of letting them as holiday rentals. Tapps-Gervis set out to build a seaside resort there during the middle of the 19th century - the rich and middle classes were spending shedloads at the time on seaside holidays so he fancied taking a slice of the cash for himself. That set the tone I guess for Bournemouth as a holiday town. The son of the original landowner developed the town further along the lines of other south coast holiday resorts in order to make his fortune. After a bit of good publicity, Bournemouth was firmly established on the tourist map. It was recognised officially as a town in 1870, the same year as the railway arrived and now has become the largest town in Dorset.
Bournemouth overlooks Poole Bay and the Isle of Wight and has a thriving youth culture which serves the high student population very well. With places like the funky Bar Tonka, Toko Bar, Elements, Bliss, The Great Escape (disco with moroccan themed chill room) you will not be at a loss for a great evening to follow your treasure hunt.
Water sports are a speciality of Bournemouth too - your weekend could go something like this - Friday night club, Saturday am recover or buy some shoes, Sat pm treasure hunt, sat evening out on the town, Sunday am stagger down to one of the many watersports businesses and surf, jetski or whatever takes your fancy.
